Private Investigator Directories… Are They Worth the Money?
Please tell me that you aren’t paying anyone to be listed in a private investigator directory…
Don’t get me wrong, not all of the directories are terrible; in fact, there are some very good directories out there- but I cannot think of one that I would actually pay to be in.
No, we’re obviously talking about the directories that are relentlessly spammed via email several times a month. These directories are cheap websites built using generic code that, while searchable, are certainly not “search engine friendly” and do a terrible job passing traffic on to the agency websites listed in them. The guys hammering away at your email in-boxes usually aren’t even private investigators; they are webmasters who are putting up dozens and dozens of unrelated directory sites hoping to sell enough listings to make some side money but care about little else… like actually getting your potential clients to your website.
Pursuit Magazine is officially announcing to its readers the inception of a new type of private investigator directory and is inviting investigation agencies with a website to obtain a free listing! Find a Private Investigator in…
From PrivateInvestigatorsInc.com:
“Caution: Getting listed in this directory is all about visibility, search engine marketing and helping potential customers find you rather than finding your competitors. If you are OK with that then we invite you to submit your listing for consideration.”
PrivateInvestigatorsInc.com is different for three basic, but hugely important, reasons:
1. PrivateInvestigatorsInc.com is built upon a blogging platform rather than a directory platform.
What does that mean, exactly?
Blogs are search engine friendly- they were built from the ground up to be completely “searchable” by the search engines and consequently, websites built upon a blogging platform are highly indexed and favored by search engines and typically rank much better than those websites that are not.
2. PrivateInvestigatorsInc.com is owned and operated by the same people that own Pursuit Magazine and CompassPoint Investigations. We are private investigators; we understand the investigation business and how potential customers use the Internet to find investigative service providers.
3. Most importantly a listing with PrivateInvestigatorsInc.com is not about generating traffic for the directory but the primary focus, instead, is to send search engines to the agency website, increase the participating agency’s search engine rankings and help the agency get more customers.
Would you rather have a potential client find your website first or would you just hope that they might find you among all of your competitors listed in a traditional private investigator directory?
If you are interested in learning more about increasing your agency website’s ranking in the search engines and improving your online exposure instantly through a free directory listing at PrivateInvestigatorsInc.com, simply visit the PrivateInvestigatorsInc.com website to learn more and to submit your site.

I can’t agree with you more about this trend. We block their email addresses.
I’ve tried that link a number of times, and even without the “about-our-directory/” suffix, and it keeps coming up as unfindable. Any ideas? The last comment says 2009, so perhaps it’s no longer live, but it came from a recent LinkedIN thread.
Anxious to see this directory!
David, Thank you for pointing this out, the link is from 2009, the website ay have gone under. If there is anything else we can help you with, let me know!
