Editor’s Message 4.5.21: Leadership Takes Practice

Hal shares a story about taking criticism to heart and gives a shout out to fellow PI Adam Visnic’s leadership chops.

In the briefing, I talk about one of the tougher parts of leadership: criticism. Doling it out fairly and handling it with grace and professionalism. Using it to make your business and your practice better. That requires humility and self-awareness, traits that strong leaders should nurture in themselves.

And speaking of practice, I share a parable from a fantastic recent article by PI Adam Visnic. It’s about pottery, perfection and the importance of practice—and making lots of mistakes—along the path to becoming excellent.

To wrap up, I give Visnic a well-deserved shout out for elevating his own position as a leader in our industry, by using his growing platform to lift up others. He’s done a fantastic job with his two YouTube channel series for PIs. You should check them out—and subscribe. —THH
