It’s webinar week! In the briefing, I get fired up about our Thursday interview with Richard Davies, solutions journalist and creator of the “How Do We Fix It?” podcast. Kim and I spent the weekend bingeing episodes of the podcast, to prep for interviewing Davies. We couldn’t get enough. What we love so much about the show is how Davies and his co-host ask their guests sincere questions and LISTEN to the answers instead of shouting each other down or delivering their version of The Truth unto their listeners.
In a time of shouting, misinformation, and aggressive certainty, it’s so refreshing to hear hosts interviewing guests — and even disagreeing — with genuine curiosity and openness to changing their minds. The podcast title has a question mark in it, and that says everything about the epistemic humility of the show and its hosts, and the respect they have for their audience.
Our goal is to borrow that vibe from Davies for 45 minutes on Thursday. We’ll ask him what he’s gleaned from all those learned guests about the hard work of imagining (and preparing for) multiple possible futures, and the importance of turning the heat down to think through complex problems.
