The Secret of Surveillance: Being Invisible

What does it take to be a good surveillance operative?

The ability to blend in.

The secret to successful surveillance? Being invisible. Blending in. Looking like you belong wherever you are.

Before a stakeout, do your homework. Learn where your subject hangs out. Study how people dress in those places. Every clique has a uniform. In a state office building, pleated khaki pants are like an invisibility cloak. In a hipster bar, better wear an ironic t-shirt and roll up your jeans.

Use common sense: You don’t need a fake beard. Just figure out how to fit in, and you’ll disappear into the scene.
