Weekly Briefing 062920

One month of origin stories down, another one to go!

This month, we’ve shared a ton of origin stories from the archives, as well as several new ones from our editors and contributors. Don’t miss these excellent and illuminating personal essays by Brian Willingham and Mark Murnan about how they found their calling. Take a moment to watch this short video doc by me, in which I go home to West Tennessee and investigate my own origins. And you should definitely settle in after dinner one night and enjoy this great webinar conversation I had with Simi Valley PI Steve Morrow about how we both came to the business, the fictional detectives who inspired us, and the many ways aspiring PIs can get their start.

We’ve also published stories this month about how things came to be: We’ve got articles about justice in the ancient world; Vidocq, the world’s first private investigator; and the Pinkertons.

In July, we’ll keep doing origin stories. Send us yours! Email kim [at] storyboardemp [dot] com with a pitch or an article. We’re always looking for new voices.

And now, here’s Hal’s briefing:
