This month we’ve been talking about how to get the word out about the work you do. Surely by now you’ve read and re-read Ruben Roel’s article on how not to waste your marketing energies and Scott Fulmer’s primer on PPC ads.
Last week, we posted a fantastic podcast and Q&A transcript featuring my conversation with Jason Feifer, editor-in-chief of Entrepreneur magazine. He had great insights to share about why promoting yourself isn’t sleazy and why creating a professional-looking website matters more than you think:
“If I am researching somebody I would like to hire, and the only thing I have about them is their website — I haven’t met them, I haven’t talked to other people they work with — I am going to extrapolate as much as I can from the thing I am looking at. And if it’s a crappy website, I’m going to think that this person does not care about the work that they do.”
